VOCABULARY CORNER

(Most images in ELTGallery also function as a button to go to the expected page.)

The Vocabulary Corner hosts more than 3000 words. The words are organized in 3 levels or lists: the first one thousand word list, the second one thousand word list, and the first three thousand word list. The Corner is developed to help English learners learn the English words in the three levels.

Although the numbers of the three levels are 1000, 1000, and 3000 respectively, the words are organized differently in this corner for the sake of learning. The numbers of the words in the 3 levels are 1050, 1500, and 2100 respectively. The words in each level are organized into 15 lessons. The numbers of words in one lesson in Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 are 70, 100, and 140 respectively. Click this link to the see the organization of the words.

The Corner holds 2 (two) types of activity: Word Display and Word Test.

Word Display
The Word Display Section presents the English words individullay one by one according to the level and unit. The presentation includes the English word, a sentence as an example of the use of the word, and its equivalent in Indonesian. The learners can both read the sentence and listen to it.

The page provides an option for the learners to choose whether they want to listen to the sentences by switching the voice button to yes or no. The choice works throughout the practice in the same level. If they change the word level, they need to choose the option again.

The Unit Tests
The Unit Test Section presents a completion test for each unit in one level. Each test has 40 questions to finish in 25 minutes for Level 1 and 2 and 50 questions in 30 minutes for Level 3. There is no running timer on the test window, but every time a user moves to the next question, the remaining time is presented. When the time is up, the user cannot submit the answer anymore, and he or she only gets the score for the answers he has submitted.

The questions in a unit test are selected randomly from the sentences in the unit. An English learner who does more than one test for a unit will not likely have the same tests. Therefore, if he has a good score, he has really known all the words in the unit well.

The Achievement Tests
The Corner has 3 achievement tests and one final test. Each achievement test covers the 5 lesson units. It consists of 50 items for 30 minutes, and the quesions are selected randomly from the previous 5 units. The final test consists of 80 items for 50 minutes. The questions are selected randomly from all the 15 units in the level.
